Yoga Classes for Adults

Reiki Yoga Explore your natural self-healing abilities!  Reiki-Yoga is a combination of Hatha Yoga and Reiki.  In many yoga postures, placement of one's own hands on the Chakras with the intention of sending universal life force energy into the body is natural and enormously effective, especially during integrative asanas. Activate and open all Chakras, as you release tension, negativity, and any blockages from the body. This is a very gentle and relaxing yet energetic flow. (Yoga practitioners at any level can receive initial Reiki attunements for self-placement of Reiki-charged healing hands.)  All levels of Yoga and/or Reiki Practitioners are Welcome!

Yoga for Weight Loss – Many forms of yoga raise the heart rate into the aerobic range.  But you don’t need to exert yourself to lose weight with yoga.  Some studies show even gentle yoga and breathing techniques crank up your tired metabolism so you can lose weight. The reason: Studies show that it lowers levels of stress hormones and increases insulin sensitivity -- a signal to your body to burn food as fuel rather than store it as fat. Taking into account that losing weight presents a mental as well as physical challenge, yoga forges a strong mind-body connection that ultimately helps make you more aware of what you eat and how it feels to be full.  Active yoga, even for the novice, can change your body and your life.

Yoga for Everyone – Almost no one starts off able to bend themselves into a pretzel.  This “householder” variation of Hatha Yoga teaches the use of props to help you find ease in postures and create “Ahhh-ha” feelings on the inside as you awaken and open your muscles and joints.  Taught for all levels of students from the average “Joe” or “Jane” who has little or no experience with yoga to the practiced yogis who have been away for a bit and want to get back on the mat, even advanced practitioners who want to refocus on alignment -- everyone benefits from their presence.  The focus is moving each student forward at their own pace.  This class is often an Iyengar-style posture clinic, but we keep things interesting by mixing in some evenings of Hatha Flow plus a sprinkling of Kundalini and Reiki surfaces in class from time to time as well.  This an awakening, relaxing, and balancing blend of yoga for your body, mind and soul.

Yoga for Runners – Following training sessions at Take...the First Step (Walk to Run), cool down and stretch to relieve muscle tension and soreness.  This class is specifically for runners. Learn just the right yoga postures for your unique range of motion needs, including flexibility, strength, balance, coordination, relaxation, and injury prevention in your individual sport. 

Yoga Facelift with a Facial – Yoga exercises for your face give you the Ultimate Natural Facelift! Tone up from the neck up!  Facial muscles need exercise to slow down sagging.  Learn some simple, controlled exercises to tighten the facial muscles in all the usual trouble spots.  Practice will include breathing and gentle stretching to increase circulation, as well as exercises for all areas of the face and neck.  As a portion of Savasana, experience the benefits of a Dead Sea Mud facial with the Holy Mud Company, who has natural and wonderful skin toning products.  This workshop may leave you feeling pampered, but this is more than toning the facial muscles and caring for the skin -- it’s learning long-term, taking care of YOU!

Power Yoga/Vinyasa Flow combines Asana (physical postures), Pranayama (breathing techniques) and Dyana (meditation) in order to promote the overall health and balance of the practitioner. These classes offer a more energetic and strong practice by guiding students through longer holdings and flowing combinations of postures. Special attention is paid to the relationship between movement and breath. These classes are intended for those who already hold a basic understanding of the postures.

Restorative Yoga/Gentle Flow also combines Asana (physical postures), Pranayama (breathing techniques) and Dyana (meditation) in order to promote the overall health and balance of the practitioner. These classes offer a more restorative, rejuvenating, and relaxing practice by guiding students through gentle holdings and flowing combinations of postures. Special attention is paid to the relationship between movement and breath. These classes benefit all levels from beginning to advanced practitioners. 

Intro to Yoga – This workshop is for those who are totally new to yoga, have done it once or twice, or who have only tried it on WiiFit :)  You will receive a basic understanding of yoga postures (asanas), learn breathing techniques (pranayama), and relaxation methods (savasana) combined with personal alignment adjustments and other tips on finding comfort in the postures.  This is the right start to give your Yoga a bright future.

Yoga 4 Lunch (Energizing Yoga) – Yoga is a healthy way to spend your lunch.  In this class, while getting away from the hustle and bustle to find meditation in each posture, you will also learn breathing techniques for energizing, for calming, and for stabilizing any moment in your life. Work the body to reverse the “computer hunch” and feel ready for the rest of your day.

Slow Burn Yoga – Holding postures longer, moving mindfully and very slowing through the asanas, learning to "Ride the Wave" and find meditation in the precision of the poses.

Yoga for Abs – Heat up your body from the core! Open up to your inner strength – directly from the core.  The abdominal muscles are the most difficult muscle groups to tone and strengthen. However, there are certain poses (asanas) in yoga that really target and tone this muscle group. Yoga can help you build strength at your core. This class pulls them all together in an energizing and challenging sequence.  Come on “row your boat” with me…

Children’s Yoga – For Kindergarten through Second Grade – Children are taught yoga poses through stories and games.  Moms, Dads, Aunts or Uncles bring your kindergarten, first, and second graders to join in on a yoga practice that helps you transition from school to home seamlessly.  It’s a lot of fun for the family, and it can be very grounding and calming before they head home for the day!!! 

Kids’ Yoga – For Third Grade through Fifth Grade – Children in this age group still get a few yoga stories and games, but we add just a little more maturity and balancing to the practice.  Moms, Dads, Aunts or Uncles bring your third, fourth, and fifth graders to join in on a yoga practice that helps you transition from school to home seamlessly.  It’s a lot of fun for the family, and it can be very grounding and calming before they head home for the day!!!  Yoga at this age helps them focus before homework.

Family Yoga “Playshop” – Spend some quality time with your child(ren) and your inner child in this class.  Moms, Dads, Aunts or Uncles bring your four to ten year olds to join in on a yoga practice that includes yoga games, yoga stories, and other fun for the family.  You will feel young at heart, and your kids will love it!  Come get healthy and get closer to your kids.

Laughter Yoga – A unique blend of Laughter Exercises, Laffirmations, Pranayama (yogic breathing techniques) and stretching… this class is great for anyone who wants to blow off some steam (totally de-stressing), increase oxygenation of the body, boost their immune system, and feel young at heart – no matter what your age. This class is much more YOGA than the average LY Club meeting, consider it a yoga class with a laughter theme, you will feel good instantly.  It’s like internal jogging or an organ massage!!  Age is no object – come laugh for no reason with us :)

Reiki Workshops

Reiki I Certification Workshop Tune into your natural healing abilities! This training workshop will open you as a channel to universal healing energies.  You will receive your attunements, learn the hand positions, gain a deeper understanding of the Chakras, and become a Certified Reiki I Practitioner!

Reiki II Certification Workshop Amp up your natural healing abilities! This training workshop will deepen your Reiki practice making you a stronger channel of universal healing energies.
