Laughter Yoga

 

 WHAT IS LAUGHTER YOGA?

Laughter Yoga is a unique exercise routine comprised of "unconditional laughter" and yogic breathing (Pranayama) - a blend of deep breathing, stretching, and laughter exercises that cultivates child-like playfulness.

Have you ever heard “laughter is the best medicine”?

Research has shown that laughter has both preventive and therapeutic values.  Research also shows that laughter is a great natural way to:

          Lower stress and tension

          Alleviate pain

          Undo blocks and barriers

          Gain Vitality

          Help boost your immune system

          Tone muscles (it's internal jogging!)

          Encourage creativity

          Restore and Relax

We combine breathing exercises from Yoga (Pranayama) with laughter exercises.

It is a fun new exercise system sweeping the world.

It increases the supply of oxygen to the body and brain. Anyone can laugh without jokes, humor or comedy.

We laugh as exercise, but real laughter quickly develops.

Laughter has a way of connecting people.

HISTORY OF

LAUGHTER YOGA

Dr. Madan Kataria, and his wife, Madhuri Kataria developed Laughter Yoga in 1995, after his research for a health journal article titled, "Laghter - The Best Medicine".  

Inspired by individuals working in Therapeutic Laughter and Gelotology, who studied the effects of laughter on the human body, Dr. Kataria conducted his own field test, out of which developed the idea to, "Laugh for No Reason". 

The first Laughter Yoga club began with only five people in a park near his home.  Now, there are nearly 6,000 Laughter Clubs in over 60 countries worldwide.

Recognizing the similarities between hearty sustained laughter and Yogic breathing techniques (Pranayama), Dr. & Mrs. Kataria, both yoga practitioners, saw a path that could bring laughter to anyone and introduce yoga to anyone.
