WHAT IS REIKI?

(pronounced "ray key")

The work "Reiki" is made up of two Japanese words: "Rei", which means Universal and "Ki", which means Energy or life force.  The most common definition of Reiki is therefore, "Universal Life Energy".

Reiki is a natural healing method that uses the hands of a healer to channel energy to another person through chakras or energy centers helping to cleanse negative energies from the body and mind.  Referred to as "Energy Medicine" by the NCCAM, Reiki has been practiced for thousands of years.  It was reintroduced in the 1800's by Mikao Usui in Japan.

Reiki practitioners channel energy in a particular pattern to heal and harmonize.  Reiki seeks to restore order to the body whose vital energy has become unbalanced.

Reiki energy has several basic effects:

  • it brings about deep relaxation;
  • dissolves energy blockages;
  • detoxifies the system;
  • provides new vitality;
  • increases the vibrational frequency of the body
  • complements traditional and other alternative medical treatments

BENEFITS OF REIKI

  • Helps with chronic pain
  • Aides in recovery from surgery

"Reiki-Yoga"

Reiki-Yoga is a combination of Hatha Yoga and Reiki.  Yoga practitioners at any level can receive Reiki I teachings and attunments for self-placement of Reiki-charged healing hands.  In many yoga postures, placement of one's own hands on the chakras with the intention of sending life force energy into the body is natural and enormously effective, especially during integrative asanas.

If you are considering signing up for a Reiki-Yoga series, please send us an email.  This series is scheduled once a handful of people have expressed an interest.

 WHAT TO EXPECT DURING A REIKI TREATMENT When a practitioner performs Reiki, usually the client sits or lies comfortably, fully clothed with the only exception of some spa settings.  The practitioner places his or her hands within the client's energy body (just about the physical body), using a variety of hand positions with the intent to focus "Ki".  The hands are positioned with the palms down, fingers and thumbs extended.  Each hand position is held until the practitioner feels that the flow of energy is satisfied.  Practitioners perform Reiki most often in offices, hospitals, clinics, and private homes. The practitioner and client determine the number of sessions together.   Reiki is a wonderful and effective complementary alternative medicine.
